West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service - Procurement of eight light pumping appliances CSFR2 (2025/26)

July 23, 2025 Cabinet Member for Community Support, Fire and Rescue (Cllr Duncan Crow) (Cabinet member) Approved View on council website
Full council record

Purpose

West Sussex Fire & Rescue
Service (WSFRS) has a rolling programme of fleet replacement and is
proposing to replace the remaining Steyr Super-G off-road vehicles
with eight new dual role Wildfire-Wade capable off-road vehicles.
The reduction in vehicle numbers has been the result of the
Specialist Capability Review and a risk-based analysis of
requirements. The existing vehicles are now over twenty-five years
old and have significantly exceeded their anticipated service
lifespan.

It is proposed that the service
purchases outright eight new light pumping appliances by commencing
a tender process and awarding contracts by October
2025.  It is also proposed that the
current appliances will be disposed of, as per the current fleet
strategy at the time. The estimated cost is £800,000
(£100,000 per appliance). This spend has already been
budgeted for in the WSFRS Fleet Capital Replacement
Programme.
