Purpose

Slinfold CE Primary School is a 140
place Primary School for 4–11-year-olds incorporating five
classrooms and a pre-school on site. Two of the five classrooms are
in 30-year-old modular classrooms, which have significant
suitability and condition issues due to the age of the buildings
and are nearing the end of their life.
 
In December 2021 approval
(decision
LS12 (21/22) refers) was given for the allocation of funding to
replace the modular classrooms with a two-class extension and
authority was delegated to the Assistant Director (Property and
Assets) to procure a contractor to complete the works.  Unforeseen delays to the project and inflationary
pressures meant that in May 2025, the Cabinet Member for Children,
Young People and Learning approved an increase in funding (decision

CYPL01(25/26) refers) for delivery of the project.
 
A procurement exercise has been
undertaken to appoint a contractor, and authority is now sought for
a decision to award the contract to enable the delivery of the
two-class extension.

Decision

The Assistant Director (Property and Assets)
has approved the award of the construction contract to E W Beard
Ltd for the delivery of the 2-class extension to replace the
modular teaching accommodation at Slinfold CE Primary School for
the value of £1,290,444 (excluding construction contingency
risk). This is affordable within the approved budget of
£1.915m for this project.
