Purpose
In support of Government’s Get Britain
Working strategy, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have
requested local areas develop local Get Britain Working plans. The
report seeks the County Council’s endorsement of a new Get
Sussex Working plan, in accordance with the DWP guidance.
The Get Sussex Working plan will be a
strategic, over-arching document for the whole of Sussex. West
Sussex County Council, East Sussex County Council and Brighton
& Hove City Council have collaborated to develop the plan
across the geography which has been included by Government in the
Devolution Priority Programme. In time, strategic oversight of the
Get Sussex Working plan and employment support will be led by the
Mayoral Combined County Authority.
A Get Sussex Working Partnership Group has
overseen the development of the Get Sussex Working plan. The plan
draws on data, evidence and stakeholder engagement. It sets out an
over-arching vision, goal and six ambitions. It also sets out
arrangements for governance, review and monitoring. The plan is
supported by an implementation plan made up of pan-Sussex and
place-based activities.
The Get Sussex Working plan is consistent with
Our Council Plan supporting the priorities of a sustainable and
prosperous economy, helping people and communities to fulfil their
potential, and making the best use of resources, underpinned by
protecting the environment. The plan is also consistent with and
supports the achievement of the West Sussex Economic Strategy
2025–2035 and the West Sussex Joint Health and Wellbeing
Strategy 2025-30.
