Purpose

Yapton CE Primary
School is a 1.5 form entry (45 pupils in each year group) primary
school for children aged 4-11 in the village of Yapton, with a total capacity of 315 pupils.
 
After careful review of the most recent pupil
projection forecasts, it has become evident that a gradual increase
in pupil numbers necessitates the need for an expansion of
Yapton CE Primary School. The increase
is largely due to the significant house building within
Yapton and surrounding areas.
 
It is proposed to expand the school by 0.5
form entry (FE) (15 pupils in each year group) increasing the
school’s Published Admissions Number (PAN) to 2FE (60 pupils
in each year group).  This would create
an overall capacity of 420 places.
 
This expansion will require remodelling works
and the construction of a new 4 classroom block extension to enable
the additional pupils to be accommodated.
 
Therefore, authority is sought for the
allocation of funding required to progress development of the
design for the scheme and to enable construction of this project,
as outlined in section 2 of the report.

Decision

The Cabinet Member for Children, Young People
and Learning has approved the allocation of £5.516m from
Section 106 developer contributions to develop the design and fund
delivery of the expansion project at Yapton CE Primary School to
enable the school to expand from 315 to 420 places, as set out in
paragraph 2.1 of this report.
