Purpose

The Worthing Growth Programme
(2017) identified a Worthing Public Realm Improvements
(WPRI)programme in Worthing town centre to support the revival of
the local economy by improving the quality and accessibility of
public areas connecting Worthing station, the town centre and the seafront.
 
As part of the WPRI programme
the Cabinet Member for Support Services and Economic Development

endorsed progression of the Worthing Railway Approach scheme in
April 2023 and delegated authority to the Assistant Director
(Highways, Transport and Planning) to award the construction
contract.
 
The proposed changes to the
parking restrictions followed engagement processes on the scheme in
Spring 2021 and on the subsequent TROs with local councillors and
the Police.  Formal Traffic Regulation
Order (TRO) consultation was in September 2023, during which
objections were received from twenty two members of the public. The
local County Councillor John Turley and Sussex Police were
consulted and expressed no concerns or objections to the proposal
being advertised.
 

Decision

The Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport,
having considered the objections, has authorised the Director of
Law and Assurance to make a revised version of the advertised
Traffic Regulation Order (as set out in section 2 and Appendices
A1, A2 and A3 of the report) and for the amended restrictions to be
implemented.
