Purpose

Waste services are seeking a decision to
appoint a new service provider to manage the haulage and treatment
of kerbside collected paper and card. The contractor will be
expected to collect around 12,000 tonnes per annum from Wigan
Council’s Waste Transfer Station. This is equivalent to
around 50 tonnes per day collected by our waste collection crews,
which needs to be removed from our site daily.

The provider will be expected to
process the waste paper and card to ensure it meets the necessary
standards to be recycled by paper mills.

Decision

The Portfolio Holder for Planning,
Environmental Services and Transport authorises:-

(1)
the award of the Waste Paper and
Card contract to the Provider identified in the report for an
initial term of three years, with two options to extend for a
period of two years and one year, respectively; and

(2)
the Assistant Director of Legal
Governance and Elections to enter into any agreements necessary on
behalf of the Council to facilitate 1.
