Purpose

The council has prepared a new Transport Strategy to provide
robust and credible evidence on transport for the new Wigan Borough
Local Plan and to establish a strong position of the Council to bid
for transport and regeneration funding.
The Transport Strategy defines our vision for the future, our key
transport challenges, and a commitment to address them, as we push
towards a more sustainable and accessible transport system to
support the travel needs of everyone who lives in, works in or
visits Wigan Borough.
This is a long-term commitment, to strive for a better transport
network in the future. As a wider plan to support inclusive growth
and respond to the environmental changes we face, the strategy will
sit alongside the Places for Everyone Plan, the emerging new Wigan
Local Plan, and our refreshed corporate priorities.
