556 - Pupil Placements Alternative Provision
October 15, 2024 Portfolio Holder for Children and Families (Cabinet member) Key decision Approved View on council websiteFull council record
Purpose
For children who are permanently excluded the LA has a statutory
duty to provide full time education from day 6 of the exclusion
under section 19 of the Education Act 1996.
When our commissioned provider AP provider Three Towers is at
capacity or unable to meet need we are increasingly required to
commission a range of independent education settings. These are
commissioned in the best interests of each individual child in
order to meet their needs. In addition some of these children may
reside out of borough but remain the responsibility of the Local
Authority for example in the case of Looked After Children who are
placed out of borough.
Decision
The Portfolio Holder for
Children and families authorises:
(1)
the award of Wigan
Council’s Contract for the alternative provision of
education to the selected suppliers identified in the report and on
the terms described; and
(2)
the Assistant Director
– Legal, Governance & Elections on behalf of the Council
to enter any agreements necessary to facilitate point
(1).
