Purpose

In Wigan Borough, we are focused on delivering our key missions:
create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and
businesses by breaking down the barriers that create financial,
health, education and environmental inequalities in our borough;
and making all our towns and villages flourish for the people who
live and work in them.

A key way to achieve this, is by supporting our voluntary,
community, faith, social enterprise sector, as they make a
significant contribution to the borough and there is a need to
position them as a valued strategic partner.

The sector is changing, many of those organisations are
experiencing high demand for their services, but due to the hyper
local focus and significant number of smaller organisations that
make up the sector, there isn’t the sufficient infrastructure
support, resources or capacity.

New ways of working with and financing the sector are needed, so
the sector can continue to thrive.

This paper sets out our current position, ambitions and also
frame’s the £1m investment set out by Leader of Wigan
Council.
