Purpose

The Annual Governance Statement is a statutory requirement for
local authorities and supports the Annual Statement of Accounts.
Its purpose is to demonstrate that there is a continuous review of
the effectiveness of the Council’s internal
control, performance, and risk management systems so that users of
the Accounts can be satisfied that proper arrangements are in place
to govern spending and safeguard assets.
