Purpose
To consider the comments received following the formal advertisement for Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs hereafter) proposing the introduction of speed limit changes along the A350 Chippenham. The features discussed in this report relate only to those proposed in the Chippenham area of the A350 from Lackham roundabout to Brook roundabout.
Decision
I approve that:
(i) The proposals be implemented as advertised.
(ii) The objectors be advised accordingly.
This decision was published on 22 June 2026 and will come into effect on 30 June 2026.
Reasons for the decision
This proposal forms part of a wider A350 dualling scheme (phases 4 and 5) having already completed the previous phases. This scheme originated from the longstanding priority to improve north-south connectivity along the A350, and Wiltshire Council has been progressively bringing forward the dualling of the A350 Chippenham bypass.
The scheme aims to:
· Reduce journey times along the A350 Chippenham Bypass
· Improve average speeds and decrease congestion at pinch-point locations such as the Bumpers Farm Roundabout
· Improve safety and reduce traffic collisions along the A350 Chippenham Bypass
The proposals are in accordance with Theme 3 in Wiltshire Council’s Business Plan 2022-2032.
Alternative options considered
To:
(i) Implement the proposals as advertised.
(ii) Amend the proposals in consideration of the comments received.
(iii) Abandon the proposals.
