This decision was published on Monday 12 October 2026 and will come into force on Tuesday 20 October 2026.
Reasons for the decision
The proposed waiting restrictions in Westbury and Bratton have been developed in response to concerns raised by local communities regarding inappropriate parking and road safety in residential areas. The primary purpose of the restrictions is to maintain adequate visibility at junctions, thereby improving road safety and facilitating safe turning movements for all road users. The restrictions will also support compliance with the Highway Code provisions relating to parking within 10 metres of a junction.
Whilst it is recognised that the proposals will reduce the availability of on-street parking in some locations, the safety benefits are considered to outweigh the inconvenience caused. Objections received in relation to the majority of the proposals have been carefully considered but do not outweigh the need to address the safety concerns identified.
The introduction of a Bus Stop Clearway marking at the existing bus stop located in the layby on the B3098 Westbury Road, Bratton will ensure the layby is kept free from parked vehicles to allow a safe stopping point and place for passengers to board and alight.
In respect of Primmers Place, Westbury, the level of local opposition, including a signed petition, representations to Westbury Town Council, and the Town Council's formal objection, indicates that the proposal does not have sufficient local support. It is therefore considered appropriate to abandon the advertised restrictions at this location whilst proceeding with the implementation of the remaining proposals in Westbury and Bratton. The proposals are in accordance with Our Wiltshire Plan 2025-2035: A Community-Centred Approach priorities 2 and 7.
The proposals have the support of the locally elected members, Westbury Local Highway Footway Improvement Group (LHFIG) and Area Board.
