Purpose
To approve the introduction, and service start date, of a weekly Food Waste Collection Service to all properties in the city.
Decision
- That the introduction of a weekly In-House Food Waste Collection Service to all properties to deliver the authority’s statutory duties under the Environment Act 2021 regarding a Food Waste Collection service be approved.
- That a phased service start date for the weekly Food Waste Service be approved:
i. Phase 1 - rollout for all kerbside collections with a start date of week commencing 26 October 2026.
ii. Phase 2 - rollout for communal properties and flats would commence November 2026, with full roll-out completed by April 2027.
- That authority be delegated to the Cabinet Member for Resident Services in consultation with the Director of Resident Services to agree the final service design and implementation of the food waste collection service.
- That the establishment of supplementary revenue budgets of £536,000 funded from Department for the Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) grants be approved.
