Purpose

To present the outcome of the consultation on the proposed expansion of Colton Hills Community School and to seek approval to implement the proposed prescribed alteration from 1 September 2027.

Decision

  1. That the outcomes of Initial Consultation and Formal Consultation (Representation) on the proposed expansion of Colton Hills Community School, in accordance with statutory guidance were considered.
  2. That the proposed prescribed alteration to Colton Hills Community School in accordance with section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act (2006) and The School Organisation (Prescribed Alterations to Maintained Schools) (England) Regulations 2013 be approved.
  3. That it be noted that under Section 14 of the Education Act 1996, the Local Authority (LA) has a statutory duty to:

·        ensure that sufficient school places are available within their area for every child of school age whose parents wish them to have one

·        to promote high educational standards, to ensure fair access to educational opportunity,

·        to help fulfil every child’s educational potential; and

·        ensure that there are sufficient schools in its area and promote diversity and parental choice.

  1. That it be noted, Colton Hills Community School is situated in Secondary Planning Area 2 (see Appendix 1 to the report). Due to previous school expansion programmes and implementation of bulge classes, there are no alternative solutions within this Planning Area.
