Decision
Background / Decision Summary:
The York BID run numerous projects to help provide a vibrant, enjoyable and safe night-time economy as part of the city’s Purple Flag status. This includes initiatives like the Best Bar None Scheme which awards licensed premises who follow best practice in their day-to-day operations. Another example is the Family Fun days which attract families into the city/encourage them to dwell and create a different vibe to that of a drinking culture from stag/hen and other groups. The purpose of the ARIS fund is to redirect money which has been recovered from the proceeds of crime (in this case scams investigated and prosecuted by the Yorkshire and the Humber Trading National Standards team which is based in CYC) into local communities to fund crime prevention.
Comments/Observations:
Excellent example of redistributing money from crime back into the local community and help support York feeling safer and more vibrant and encourage people into the city. The Best Bar None scheme is particularly valued by the Public Protection team as it requires pubs to operate in accordance with best practice and prevents licensing issues arising.
Decision: To award the BID £21k in support of their initiatives.
