Establishment of Sub-Committees and Panels 2026/27

The meeting agenda included consideration of the establishment of and appointments to various sub-committees and panels for the Municipal Year 2026/27. This included the formation of the Chief Officers' Employment Panel, the Licensing Panel, the Personnel Appeals Panel, and the Social Services Appeals Panel.

The Chief Officers' Employment Panel was planned to have seven members, with nominations to be made by the Conservative and Labour groups. The report indicated that the Leader of the Group and Deputy Leader of the Group from each political party would be appointed, along with a relevant portfolio holder from the Conservative group.

For the Licensing Panel, a pool of three members was to be selected from a list of nominees from both the Conservative and Labour parties. The nominees for the Conservative party included Councillors Philip Benjamin, Govind Bharadia, Matthew Goodwin-Freeman, Councillor Ameet Jogia MBE, and Councillor Maxine Henson. Labour nominees listed were Councillor Rhys Benjamin, Councillor Paresh Chudasama, Councillor Ray Grant, Councillor Susan Hall, Councillor Kuha Kumaran, Councillor Gabriele Montone, Councillor Amir Moshenson, Councillor Mike Raven, and Councillor Angella Murphy-Strachan, Councillor Krishna Suresh.

The Personnel Appeals Panel was scheduled to have three members, with nominees from both Conservative and Labour parties. The Conservative nominees included David Ashton, Marilyn Ashton, Christopher Baxter, Nicola Blackman, Stephen Greek, Paul Osborn, Pritesh Patel, Kanti Rabadia, and Norman Stevenson. Labour nominees were Peymana Assad, Shahania Choudhury, Angella Murphy-Strachan, Varsha Parmar, and Yusuf Yusuf.

The Social Services Appeals Panel was to consist of two members plus one independent member, with nominees from the Conservative and Labour parties. Councillor Ameet Jogia MBE and Hitesh Karia were listed as Conservative nominees, while Councillor Maxine Henson, Kuha Kumaran, and Pritesh Patel were listed as Labour nominees.

Procedural Matters

The meeting agenda also included standard procedural items. Attendees were to note the attendance of any duly appointed Reserve Members, who may attend meetings to take the place of an ordinary member if they are absent for the whole meeting. Additionally, members were scheduled to receive declarations of disclosable pecuniary or non-pecuniary interests arising from the business to be transacted at the meeting. The appointment of a Vice-Chair of the Committee for the municipal year 2026/27 was also on the agenda.
