The Stonehenge Area Board meeting scheduled for 11 June 2026 was set to discuss a range of community matters, with a significant focus on funding applications for local projects and initiatives. The agenda also included updates on local highways and footpaths, key partner organisations, and the board's own priorities and action plans.
Funding Applications
A substantial portion of the meeting was dedicated to considering applications for funding from various grant streams. The board was presented with the remaining budgets for Community Area Grants, Youth Grants, and Older & Vulnerable Grants.
Under Community Area Grants, applications included:
- Shrewton Village Hall and Recreation Ground requested £1,774.80 towards a hearing loop system for the village hall.
- Amesbury Mens Shed sought £2,749.99 for equipment, including a safer table saw and a can crushing machine, to enhance their operations and community contributions.
- Safe Haven Mental Health Project applied for £5,000.00 towards their mental health project.
- River Till Monitoring Group requested £3,500.00 for their river monitoring activities.
For Older & Vulnerable Grants, the applications were:
- Latte and Laughter requested £2,100.00 for their project aimed at creating a social space for adults with learning disabilities.
- Silver Salisbury Group sought £500.00 towards printing and distributing their autumn programme for older residents in Amesbury.
Under Youth Grants, the following applications were scheduled for consideration:
- Youth Adventure Trust requested £4,000.00 to support disadvantaged young people in Amesbury and Durrington.
- Hazel Hill Wood applied for £3,000.00 towards outdoor activity days for young people at their nature reserve.
- Stonehenge Area Board Initiative requested £1,350.00 for Stonehenge Young Athletes' regional and national participation.
- Mad Hatters Tea Party (via Buzz Action Foundation) requested £350.00 for a VIP experience for children with life-limiting illnesses and their siblings.
- God Unlimited (Gul) Outdoor Therapy sought £5,000.00 for their
Get Outdoors with Gul
project, which provides holiday provision for low-income and disadvantaged groups. - Amesbury Youth Partnership requested £1,000.00 towards the Amesbury Festival of Youth.
Local Highways and Footpath Improvements
The Local Highways and Footpath Improvement Group (LHFIG) presented minutes and recommendations from their meeting on 13 May 2026. Key recommendations included:
- Stapleford B3083 signing & road markings with a total cost of £1,500, to be funded by LHFIG (£1,125) and Stapleford Parish Council (£375).
- Durrington SID infrastructure with a total cost of £4,000, to be funded by LHFIG (£3,000) and Durrington Town Council (£1,000), with confirmation pending.
Several new issues were also scheduled for consideration by the LHFIG, including parking issues on Tanners Lane in Shrewton, visibility concerns at the A360 Orcheston junction, and speeding issues on the B3086 London Road in Shrewton. Other matters included pedestrian safety on Amesbury Porton Road, safety concerns on the B3083 near Stapleford, and traffic management in Durrington on Hackthorne Road and Church Street.
Information Items and Partner Updates
The board was scheduled to receive updates on a variety of information items, including reports from Community First, Healthwatch Wiltshire, BSW Together (an Integrated Care System), Alcoholics Anonymous, and Wessex Community Action.
Wiltshire Council provided several briefing notes on initiatives such as the Wiltshire Council Consultation Portal, the Connect to Work Programme and Skills Bootcamps, the Wiltshire Faith Communities Network, and the launch of the Community Lottery.
Updates were also expected from key partners, including Wiltshire Police, with Inspector Gavin Brewster of the Amesbury Neighbourhood Policing Team and Chief Superintendent Doug Downing providing information on the Southern Policing Hub, Old Sarum. Written updates from Wiltshire Police included their Amesbury NPT update, a Road Safety update, and a quarterly report on Violence Against Women and Girls.
Community Spotlight and Priorities
A Community Spotlight segment was planned to provide an update on the Stonehenge Area Board Youth Fair, highlighting its positive impact. The board was also scheduled to receive updates on Stonehenge Area Board priorities and action plans from lead councillors, covering areas such as Community Cohesion, Local Environment Action, Health and Wellbeing, Youth Engagement, and Community Safety.
Appointments
The meeting agenda included a section for Appointments, where lead members were to be appointed to the LHFIG and other outside bodies for the 2026/27 year. The Terms of Reference for the LHFIG were also to be noted.
The meeting was scheduled to conclude with an Open Floor session, allowing attendees to ask questions and for Town and Parish Councils to provide updates.
