Update on the Council's Medium Term Financial Position

A key item on the agenda was an update on the Council's Medium Term Financial Strategy (MTFS) and its overall financial resilience. This report, from the Cabinet Member for Finance and Cost of Living, was set to detail the expected savings required for the next MTFS period (2027-2030) to ensure continued financial resilience. It was also to provide an update on the Council's revenue outturn position for the 2025/26 financial year, including proposals for the use of reserves. Furthermore, the report was scheduled to outline the service areas and wider factors contributing to the Council's financial challenges and the proposed responses, alongside the Council's capital outturn position for 2025/26 and the annual refresh of its capital budgets.

Work Programme

The committee was also due to review the proposed work programme for the 2026/27 municipal year, as outlined in a report by the Director of Strategy, Design and Insight. This paper was intended to provide an overview of the planned agenda items for the upcoming year, allowing committee members to consider and propose any amendments. The committee's terms of reference, which include scrutinising strategic and corporate policies and performance, assisting in budget development, and overseeing the Corporate Services Directorate, were also to be noted.
