Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Wandsworth and are not the council. About us
The Richmond and Wandsworth Joint Staffing Committee was scheduled to discuss the recruitment and selection process for a new permanent Chief Executive. The meeting agenda also included the approval of minutes from a previous meeting and consideration of excluding the press and public for a specific agenda item.
Recruitment and Selection of the Permanent Chief Executive
The committee was scheduled to consider a report from the Executive Director of Change and Innovation regarding the recruitment and selection of the permanent Chief Executive. This role is also known as the Head of Paid Service. The report was expected to outline options for appointing an individual to this significant leadership position for both Richmond and Wandsworth Councils. The previous meeting on 18th June 2026 had discussed this matter, with the report pack indicating that a resolution was made to support Option 2
for the appointment, which involved an internal process with full assessment. However, it is not known if this recommendation was followed at this meeting.
Exclusion of the Press and Public
A resolution was scheduled to be considered for the exclusion of the press and public from a portion of the meeting. This would be done under Section 100A(4) of the Local Government Act 1972, which allows for the exclusion of the public when exempt information is likely to be disclosed. The report indicated that the information to be discussed was personal and related to an identifiable individual, and that its disclosure could inhibit the free and frank provision of advice or the exchange of views. The report stated that the public interest in maintaining the exemption was considered to outweigh the public interest in disclosure.
Minutes of Previous Meeting
The committee was scheduled to review and approve the minutes from the meeting held on 18th June 2026. This is a standard procedure to ensure the accuracy of the record of previous discussions and decisions.
