Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Ealing and are not the council. About us
The Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) of Ealing Council is scheduled to meet on Thursday, 18 June 2026. The meeting will cover a range of topics, including the review of school determinations for collective worship, updates on SACRE membership and workplan, and national and local developments in Religious Education.
Collective Worship and Determinations
A significant portion of the meeting is dedicated to considering applications for school determinations regarding collective worship. This includes reviewing applications from Stanhope Primary School and Lady Margaret Primary School. These schools are seeking to lift or modify the requirement for their collective worship to be wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian character.
The report pack details the schools' current religious affiliations, their proposed approaches to collective worship and reflection, and how they plan to safeguard the interests of parents who may prefer Christian-based reflection. The council will also receive an updated list of all school determinations currently in place across Ealing.
SACRE Membership and Workplan
The council will be updated on the current SACRE membership for the 2025-2026 academic year, noting any vacancies and reviewing the overall representation. Alongside this, the SACRE Workplan for 2025-2026 will be presented, outlining the reports and agenda items scheduled for SACRE meetings throughout the year and the responsibilities for their provision.
National and Local Updates
The meeting will include updates on national and local developments relevant to Religious Education. This includes information on a national review of Religious Education, which is considering its potential inclusion in the national curriculum and ways to achieve greater consistency and accountability. Discussions are also expected regarding challenges in RE, such as teacher recruitment and retention, and the impact of national policy changes. The role of RE Hubs and the importance of Interfaith Week will also be highlighted.
Agreed Syllabus Update and Farmington Scholars
An update will be provided on the Ealing Agreed Syllabus review, which is being undertaken in collaboration with Haringey. Feedback from teachers has indicated a need for clearer curriculum vocabulary, more accessible planning structures, and improved access to practical classroom resources. The council will also hear presentations from Ealing's Farmington Scholars, Charlotte Lannigan and Juran Hakim. Charlotte Lannigan's research focuses on primary RE curriculum design, and Juran Hakim is exploring how inclusive representation in the RE curriculum impacts pupils' identity and sense of belonging.
Other Matters
The meeting agenda includes the election of a Chair, noting any apologies for absence, considering urgent matters, and recording any declarations of interest. The minutes of the previous meeting held on 3 February 2026 are to be presented for noting. The date of the next meeting, scheduled for 29 September 2026, is to be confirmed.
