The Wandsworth Borough Council convened for a Mayor-Making Ceremony where Councillor Adrian Knowles was formally elected and accepted the office of Mayor for the municipal year 2012/13. Councillor Nicola Nardelli was appointed as the Deputy Mayor. The outgoing Mayor, Councillor Ravi Govindia, was thanked for his service.
Mayor-Making Ceremony
The meeting began with tributes to the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Ravi Govindia, for his service during the 2011/12 municipal year. Councillor Govindia was presented with a vellum copy of the Council's resolution of appreciation, with Councillor Rex Osborn also supporting the expression of thanks. The outgoing Mayor then expressed his own thanks.
The main business of the evening was the formal acceptance of office by the newly elected Mayor for the 2012/13 municipal year, Councillor Adrian Knowles. Councillor Knowles had been elected at the Annual Council Meeting on 16th May 2012. Councillors Miss Jenny Nickels and Matthew Maxwell Scott spoke in support of Councillor Knowles' election. Following his acceptance and the prescribed declaration of office, Councillor Knowles took the Chair and thanked the council for his election. He announced that his consort would be Mr. Christopher Mayhew.
Following the Mayor-Making, the Mayor announced his appointment of Councillor Nicola Nardelli as Deputy Mayor for the ensuing year. Councillor Nardelli accepted the appointment and was invested with the Deputy Mayor's badge of office. Her consort will be Mr. Domenic Nardelli.
The Mayor concluded the meeting with announcements regarding his chosen charities for the 2012/13 municipal year, which will be the Royal Marsden Hospital, Chelsea, and Oak Lodge School. The ceremony concluded at 8:55 p.m.
