Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Wandsworth and are not the council. About us
The Conservation and Heritage Advisory Committee was scheduled to consider a range of planning applications that could affect the borough's conservation areas and listed buildings. The meeting's agenda also included a report on recent decisions made on planning applications previously reviewed by the committee.
Planning Applications for Consideration
The committee was scheduled to review several planning applications that could impact the character or appearance of conservation areas and listed buildings within Wandsworth. The Assistant Director (Planning and Transport), Mrs Jenifer Jackson, presented a report outlining these proposals. The committee's comments on these applications were intended to be reported to the relevant Case Officer and/or the Planning Applications Committee.
Battersea Park, SW11 4NJ: An application was scheduled for consideration regarding the retention of an existing temporary building within the British Genius Site. This building, with a maximum height of 12.4m, was proposed for continued use for various events in the park for a further four years.
Francis Barber Pupil Referral Unit, Franciscan Road SW17 8HE: The committee was to consider proposals for the demolition of existing buildings at the site, with the exception of the southernmost sports hall. The redevelopment plan included the construction of new two-storey and three-storey buildings for educational use (Class F1)1. The proposals also involved opening up part of a listed wall for vehicle access, reinstating part of the boundary wall, and creating outside play spaces, along with hard and soft landscaping works. A separate application for Listed Building Consent (LBC) for these works was also scheduled for review.
Broadwater Primary School, Broadwater Road SW17 0DZ: The agenda included the demolition of the Early Years building and the construction of a new part one, part two-storey building on its site. The existing Junior school building was to be retained and refurbished to accommodate a new special educational needs (SEN)2 secondary school for Wandsworth's SEN secondary school children.
6 Belleville Road SW11 6QT: This application concerned the demolition of part of the front boundary wall, gate, and railings, with the erection of cycle and waste storage facilities and a metal gate in the front garden.
Report on Recent Decisions
A report by the Chief Executive, Mike Jackson, was scheduled to inform the committee about recent decisions made on planning applications that had previously been considered by the committee. This report was for information only.
The report highlighted one application that had been determined under delegated authority:
- 1A Acris Street, SW18 2QT: This application, which involved alterations including the erection of a mansard roof extension, had previously been objected to by the committee. The committee had considered that the proposals would harm the conservation area, citing objections to the nature of the roof and its impact on the street scene. The loss of the stable block, described as a rare feature in the borough, was also a significant factor in the objection, as was the loss of the view through and beyond the site to Wandsworth Common. The decision on this application was planning permission refused by delegated authority.
