The West Planning Committee of Northumberland Council met on Tuesday 09 June 2026 to consider a planning application for new dwellings in Langley-on-Tyne and to receive an update on planning appeals. The meeting's agenda also included standard procedural items such as apologies for absence and the confirmation of previous minutes.
Determination of Planning Applications
The committee was scheduled to consider a planning application for the demolition of existing buildings and the construction of five new one to two-storey dwellings, including two detached garages, with associated landscaping and access at Land East of Langley Furniture Works, Langley-on-Tyne. The report pack indicated that the application sought permission for four four-bedroom dwellings and one three-bedroom dwelling. The proposals involved the redevelopment of part of the former brickworks site. The report detailed that the application had been called into committee by the Ward Councillor and outlined responses from various consultees, including Haydon Parish Council, the County Ecologist, and Highways. Objections from neighbours were also summarised, raising concerns about the density of development, highway safety, noise from the adjacent Langley Furniture Works, drainage, and the design's compatibility with the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The report also noted that a previous application for this site had been refused.
Appeals Update
A report was scheduled to be presented to members for their information, detailing the progress of planning appeals across Northumberland. This monthly report would cover both determined appeals and those that had been received.
