Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Camden and are not the council. About us
The Resources and Corporate Performance Scrutiny Committee of Camden Council met on Monday 7 September 2026. The meeting's agenda included a review of the council's Corporate Peer Challenge Action Plan and the proposed work programme for the upcoming year.
Corporate Peer Challenge Action Plan
The committee was scheduled to consider the council's Corporate Peer Challenge Action Plan. This plan outlines how Camden Council intends to address the recommendations made following a Corporate Peer Challenge conducted in November 2025. The challenge, offered by the Local Government Association (LGA), is designed to support continuous improvement and assurance within local government.
The peer team's report, which was appended to the action plan, acknowledged Camden Council as a well-run and high performing Council
with a strong values-led culture. It highlighted positive aspects such as good relationships between members and officers, productive partnerships, and initiatives contributing to inclusive economic growth like Good Work Camden and the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) partnership. The report also noted that the council is well-positioned to benefit from growth initiatives such as the redevelopment of Euston.
The peer team's report made 12 recommendations, which the council has responded to in the action plan. These recommendations cover areas such as strengthening the council's narrative by linking its high-level Missions to data and measurable outcomes, articulating its inclusive growth offer more clearly, and reviewing the council's Constitution. The action plan details specific steps Camden Council plans to take to implement these recommendations, with proposed timescales and responsible officers.
The report recommended that the Resources and Corporate Performance Scrutiny Committee consider the action plan and make any recommendations to the Cabinet. The Cabinet was also asked to agree the action plan and note the intention to report on progress within a year.
Work Programme 2026/27
The committee was also scheduled to review the proposed work programme for the 2026/27 municipal year. This document outlines the planned agenda items for the committee's meetings throughout the year, aligning with the council's corporate priorities and issues raised by the community. The committee was invited to consider the proposed programme and suggest any amendments.
The work programme for the 2026/27 year included a range of topics, such as updates on the Council's Medium Term Financial Position, the People and Inclusion Service, Housing Ombudsman Complaint Handling, and the Insight, Learning and Impact reports. Specific items for future meetings included a review of the Camden Medium Term Financial Strategy, Council Tax Support, and the Annual Complaints Report. The committee also had the opportunity to form scrutiny panels for more in-depth examination of specific areas within its remit.
