The Appeals Sub Committee of Aberdeen City Council met on Thursday 24 September 2026. The meeting was held in private to consider confidential information relating to an appeal.
Appeal 26/05
The Sub Committee considered an appeal against a decision by Aberdeen City Council to dismiss an employee, identified as appeal 26/05 in the Register of Appeals. Following submissions from both parties, Management and the Appellant, and subsequent questioning of witnesses, the Sub Committee deliberated in private. Upon reconvening, the Sub Committee resolved to unanimously uphold the appeal based on the evidence presented, which resulted in the reinstatement of the appellant's employment with Aberdeen City Council.
The Appeals Sub Committee operates under the council's Human Resources Policies and Procedures to hear appeals made by employees and industrial disputes raised by recognised Trade Unions. Its role is to review the fairness of decisions made by council officers, rather than to re-hear cases. The Sub Committee can revoke, confirm, or vary the decision being appealed against. The procedure for hearings, including preliminary points, presentation of cases by both management and the appellant, and the summing up of arguments, is detailed in the council's Dispute Resolution Procedure1.
