Summary
Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Wandsworth and are not the council. About us
The Council of Wandsworth Council was scheduled to consider proposals for conferring the title of Honorary Alderman on seven former councillors. This honour is typically awarded to individuals who have served for ten or more years and rendered eminent services to the council.
Honorary Aldermen
The council was scheduled to consider conferring the title of Honorary Alderman on seven former councillors: Jeremy Ambache, Kim Caddy, Peter Carpenter, Jonathan Cook, Nick Cuff, John Locker, and Steffi Sutters. This proposal arose from proceedings at the General Purposes Committee meeting held on 13 October 2026. The council was scheduled to adopt procedures outlined in Section 249 of the Local Government Act 19721 for this purpose.
The report pack indicated that the council was recommended to approve the arrangements for this conferral, including the award of appropriate gifts and a ceremony. The cost of these proposals was expected to be met from within existing approved revenue budgets within the Chief Executive's Group. The award ceremony, which would include the presentation of framed certificates, was scheduled to be held at a later date. The names of the new Honorary Aldermen were also to be inscribed in the Council Chamber.
