Summary
Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Swansea and are not the council. About us
The Climate Change & Nature Recovery Service Transformation Committee met on Monday 3 June 2024 to approve its draft work plan for the upcoming year and discuss future waste strategies. The committee also approved the dates and times for future meetings.
Future Waste Strategy
The committee received an updated report on the Future Waste Strategy, following discussions at their previous meeting on 15 April 2024. The report detailed progress on seasonal garden waste collections, the potential for trialling the collection of additional materials at the kerbside, and an update on the rollout of reusable containers. The committee noted the contents of the report and resolved that an update report would be provided later in the municipal year.
The council is currently just above the Welsh Government's 70% recycling target, with validated figures from 2022/23 and preliminary figures for 2023/24 indicating continued success. Discussions are ongoing regarding the potential collection of plastic film, tetra pack-style cartons, small electrical items, and textiles, subject to Welsh Government funding. These additional materials would be collected individually in single-use bags alongside plastic collections.
Draft Work Plan 2024-2025
The committee approved its Draft Work Plan for 2024-2025, with several amendments. The item GI maintenance
was removed from the 15 July 2024 agenda and the overall work plan. The Tree Management Strategy
was moved to 6 January 2025, and a presentation on the Local Places for Nature (LPfN) Programme - Local Nature Partnership Grant 2023-25
was added to the 15 July 2024 agenda. A workshop on the Tree Management Strategy will be held later in the municipal year, and the committee will receive an update on No Mow May
at a future date.
Date and Time of Future Meetings
The committee resolved that all future meetings in the 2024-2025 municipal year would commence at 3:00 pm. The scheduled future meeting dates are 15 July 2024, 9 September 2024, 21 October 2024, 2 December 2024, 6 January 2025, 17 February 2025, and 31 March 2025.
