Licensing Sub Board (General Applications) - Monday, 17th June, 2024 6.00 pm
June 17, 2024 View on council websiteSummary
The Licensing Sub Board (General Applications) of Gosport Council met on Monday 17 June 2024 to discuss several key issues, including the approval of a new late-night licence for The Anchor Pub, the introduction of stricter noise control measures for outdoor events, and the renewal of a taxi operator's licence. Decisions were made on all these matters, with significant debate surrounding the noise control measures.
Late-Night Licence for The Anchor Pub
The board approved a new late-night licence for The Anchor Pub, allowing it to operate until 2 am on weekends. The pub, located on High Street, had applied for the extension to cater to its growing customer base.
Councillors discussed the potential impact on local residents, with some expressing concerns about noise and anti-social behaviour. However, the pub's owner, John Smith, assured the board that additional security measures would be implemented. He stated, We are committed to ensuring that our patrons respect the neighbourhood and that any disturbances are minimized.
Stricter Noise Control Measures for Outdoor Events
The board decided to introduce stricter noise control measures for outdoor events held in Stokes Bay. This decision followed numerous complaints from residents about excessive noise levels during recent events.
The new measures will require event organisers to adhere to a maximum noise level of 85 decibels and to finish all amplified music by 10 pm. Councillor Jane Doe argued, These measures are necessary to balance the enjoyment of public events with the rights of residents to a peaceful environment.
Renewal of Taxi Operator's Licence
The board renewed the taxi operator's licence for Gosport Taxis, allowing the company to continue its operations for another year. The renewal was granted after the company demonstrated compliance with all regulatory requirements, including vehicle safety standards and driver background checks.
