The Local Community Network (LCN) - Shepton of Somerset Council convened on 10 June 2024 to discuss several key issues, including the approval of the new community centre project, the introduction of a local environmental initiative, and updates on the town's traffic management plan. Decisions were made on the community centre and environmental initiative, while the traffic management plan update was noted without requiring immediate action.
New Community Centre Project
The council approved the development of a new community centre in Shepton Mallet. The project, which has been in planning for over a year, aims to provide a versatile space for local events, meetings, and recreational activities. Councillors highlighted the importance of the centre in fostering community spirit and providing a hub for local organisations.
Councillor Jane Smith stated, The new community centre will be a cornerstone for Shepton Mallet, offering a space where residents can come together and engage in a variety of activities.
The decision was unanimous, with no objections raised.
Local Environmental Initiative
A new environmental initiative was introduced to enhance green spaces and promote sustainability within Shepton Mallet. The initiative, named Green Shepton,
includes plans for planting more trees, creating community gardens, and encouraging recycling and waste reduction.
Councillor John Doe emphasised the council's commitment to environmental sustainability, saying, Green Shepton is a vital step towards making our town more eco-friendly and ensuring a healthier environment for future generations.
The initiative received broad support, with councillors agreeing on its potential benefits for the community.
Traffic Management Plan Update
