Summary
The Licensing Sub-Committee of Croydon Council convened on Monday, 10 June 2024, to discuss several key issues, including the application for a premises licence at Wandle Park and a review of the licence for 18 Central Parade. Decisions were made on both matters, with significant implications for local businesses and residents.
Application for a Premises Licence at Wandle Park
The committee reviewed an application for a premises licence at Wandle Park. The application, submitted by a local business, sought permission to sell alcohol and provide entertainment within the park. The proposal was met with mixed reactions from the community.
Supporters of the application argued that the licence would enhance the park's appeal and provide a safe, regulated environment for social gatherings. One resident noted, The park is a central hub for our community, and having a licensed venue would encourage more people to use and enjoy the space.
Opponents raised concerns about potential noise pollution, litter, and antisocial behaviour. A local resident stated, We already have issues with noise and litter in the park. Adding a licensed venue will only exacerbate these problems.
After deliberation, the committee decided to grant the premises licence with specific conditions to address the concerns raised. These conditions include restricted operating hours and increased security measures.

Review of Licence for 18 Central Parade
The committee also conducted a review of the premises licence for 18 Central Parade, following complaints from residents about noise and disturbances. The review was prompted by a series of incidents reported over the past six months.
During the meeting, the business owner defended their operations, stating that they had taken steps to mitigate noise and had cooperated with local authorities. We have installed soundproofing and adjusted our closing times to comply with regulations,
the owner explained.
However, residents continued to express dissatisfaction, citing ongoing issues. One resident shared, Despite the measures taken, we still experience significant disturbances late at night. It's affecting our quality of life.
The committee decided to impose stricter conditions on the licence, including further reduced operating hours and mandatory noise monitoring. The decision aims to balance the interests of the business with the need to protect residents' well-being.
