The Overview and Scrutiny Climate Change Sub-Committee of Wyre Borough Council met on Thursday, 13 June 2024, to discuss the progress of the draft Climate Change Strategy and to review the work programme for 2023/24. The committee noted the reports presented and discussed the need for improved communications and future agenda items.
Progress Report - Draft Climate Change Strategy
The Corporate Director Environment submitted a report updating the committee on the draft Climate Change Strategy and the findings from the recent public consultation. Sammy Gray, the Climate Change and Environmental Projects Officer, introduced the report and highlighted the next steps, which include appointing consultants to prioritise action plans and update the strategy. Members expressed concerns about the low response rate to the consultation and emphasised the need for better communication on climate matters. The report was noted.
Overview and Scrutiny Climate Change Sub-Committee Work Programme 2023/24 – Update Report
The Corporate Director Resources submitted a report to update members on the work programme for 2023/24. Daphne Courtenage, the Democratic Services Officer, introduced the report. The Chair provided an overview of the key issues discussed at the latest Electric Vehicle Charging Points in Wyre Task Group meeting held on 13 March 2024. Members discussed various topics, including waste management, housing, transport, and communications, expressing a desire to review these areas in the future.
The Chair suggested adding an agenda item for the next meeting to discuss the connections between the Local Plan and the Climate Change Strategy. Members also recommended inviting the Communications and Visitor Economy Manager, along with the Climate Change and Environmental Projects Officer, to discuss resident communications regarding climate change. The report was noted.
