June 19, 2024 View on council websiteSummary
The Statutory Licensing Sub-Committee of North Yorkshire Council convened to discuss the licensing application for Curlew Gelato Lounge and the associated public representations. The committee approved the application with specific conditions to address public concerns.
Curlew Gelato Lounge Licensing Application
The primary focus of the meeting was the licensing application for Curlew Gelato Lounge, a new establishment seeking to serve alcohol alongside its gelato offerings. The application, detailed in the Officer Report, proposed operating hours from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, seven days a week.
Public Representations
Several public representations were submitted, as outlined in Appendix B. Concerns were raised about potential noise, increased traffic, and the impact on local residents' quality of life. One resident stated, The late hours will inevitably lead to noise disturbances, especially during weekends,
highlighting the community's apprehension.
Committee Decision
After deliberation, the committee decided to approve the application with conditions aimed at mitigating the raised concerns. These conditions included:
- Restricting alcohol service to between 12:00 PM and 9:00 PM.
- Implementing soundproofing measures within the premises.
- Ensuring that outdoor seating areas close by 8:00 PM.
The committee emphasised the importance of balancing business interests with community well-being. One member noted, While we support local businesses, it is crucial to ensure that their operations do not negatively impact the residents.
Procedure and Documentation
The meeting followed the standard Procedure for licensing applications. The Public reports pack and Agenda frontsheet provided comprehensive details on the application and the representations received.
