Summary
The Newcastle upon Tyne Council Cabinet meeting on 24 June 2024 focused on several key issues, including the approval of a Deed of Variation with a strategic partner, and the necessary arrangements for staff transfers under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006.
Strategic Partnership Update
The Cabinet reviewed the current arrangements with its strategic partners as part of the ongoing work on the Authority’s Medium Term Financial Plan (MTFP). The report presented sought approval for a Deed of Variation with one of the Authority’s partners. The decision was made to agree to the proposed settlement, authorising the Director of Resources, in consultation with relevant Cabinet Members and officials, to conclude all necessary arrangements.
The Director of Resources was also authorised to commence and finalise all necessary consultations with affected employees and their Trade Unions regarding the transfer of staff pursuant to the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006. This includes any other relevant legislation and matters relating to the employees affected. Furthermore, the Director of Resources was empowered to novate, extend, and procure any associated third-party contracts in consultation with the Director of Regeneration and Economic Development and the Head of Law.
The decision was driven by the need to ensure financial stability and operational efficiency within the council’s strategic partnerships. The Cabinet emphasised the importance of maintaining robust financial management practices to support the council’s long-term objectives.
