Registration and Licensing Committee - Monday, 10th June, 2024 10.00 am
June 10, 2024 View on council websiteSummary
The Registration and Licensing Committee of Neath Port Talbot Council met on 10 June 2024 to discuss several key issues, including the approval of previous meeting minutes, a proposed Hackney Carriage fare increase, and a private session on driver licensing. The committee approved the minutes of the previous meetings and recommended the fare increase to the Cabinet for approval.
Hackney Carriage Fare Increase
The committee discussed a proposed increase in Hackney Carriage fares. Councillor A. Lodwig, who is a taxi driver, declared a prejudicial interest and left the meeting for this item. The committee resolved to note and commend the fare increase to the Cabinet for approval. The discussion highlighted the need to balance fair compensation for drivers with affordability for passengers.
Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes
The minutes of the meetings held on 30 October 2023 and 19 February 2024 were approved as true and accurate records. Officers explained that the minutes of 30 October 2023 had been amended to correct administrative errors. These corrections included noting that the Senior Legal Regulatory Officer, not the Licensing Manager, introduced the report, that the driver did attend the meeting, and that the licence was revoked, not refused.
Private Session on Driver Licensing
The committee moved into a private session to discuss a case involving Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver Licensing. The details of this discussion were contained in a private circulated report, which the committee noted.
