Application for a Premises Licence – City Sports & Cocktail Bar Ltd, 20/21 Menai Centre, Bangor, Gwynedd LL57 1DN
The Central Licensing Sub Committee was scheduled to consider an application for a new premises licence for a sports bar and cocktail bar in Bangor. The application requested permission for:
- Plays indoors and outdoors
- Films indoors
- Indoor Sporting Events
- Boxing and Wrestling Entertainment both indoors and outdoors
- Live music indoors and outdoors
- Recorded music Indoors and Outdoors
- Performance of Dance Indoors
- Late Night Refreshments Indoors and Outdoors
- Supply of Alcohol Both On and Off the Premises
The applicant proposed a number of measures to promote the licensing objectives, these included:
- Installing CCTV
- Staff training
- Employing SIA registered door staff
- Bodycams for staff
- Keeping the venue clean and hygienic
- Training staff in

Objections to the application were received from:
- A member of the public
- Gwynedd Council Environmental Health
- North Wales Police
The main concerns related to:
- Noise pollution from music
- Potential for antisocial behaviour
- Safety of the public
North Wales Police expressed concern about the application to permit the sale of alcohol until 04:00, noting that:
after 4am the police have fewer resources.
After discussions with North Wales Police, the applicant offered to stop selling alcohol at 03:30. The committee report recommended that the committee accept this compromise.
The committee report recommended that the sub-committee consider all of the concerns raised and that if the licence were to be approved, appropriate conditions and noise mitigation measures should be attached to the licence.
