Summary
A meeting was held to consider whether to increase fees and charges across Leisure Services.
Increase in Fees and Charges across Leisure Services
This was a decision to be taken by the Strategic Director of Environment and Communities, under delegated authority from the Executive.
The report requested permission to increase fees and charges across leisure services for activities at Blackburn Leisure Centre, Darwen Leisure Centre and Witton Park Arena from 1 January 2025.
The report argues that The cost of operating the Council’s three leisure centres has increased significantly in the past 12 months due to the costs of utilities and the cost of goods and services, including equipment, cleaning products and pool chemicals.
The report notes that the council considered not increasing costs, but this was rejected because the increase in charges for leisure activities and the additional income generated aligns with the Council’s Corporate Plan and the supporting mission to tackle the budget challenge
