Summary
This meeting was scheduled to include a discussion about a Community Resources Update, the notification of previous decisions and some tree planting proposals.
Community Resources Update
The meeting was scheduled to consider a Community Resources Update (AC5 2 December 2024 - Community Resources Intro Paper).
This report included a recommendation that the Committee note the underspend in relation to a 2022 Parks project in Oldbury Court Estate that has been returned for reallocation.
Notification of Previous Decisions
The meeting was scheduled to note the decisions that had been taken at the previous Area Committee meetings in February 2024 (AC5 2 December 2024 - Notification of Previous Decisions Paper). These included the approval of funding for signs and trees in Hillfields, double yellow lines, the provision of a Public Access Defibrillator for the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity, bins and seats in Oldbury Court Estate, an accessible toilet and fire door at the Old Library, and bins in Hillfields.
Tree Planting Proposals
The meeting was also scheduled to consider whether to approve funding for tree planting in the Area Committee 5 area (AC5 2 December 2024 - Tree Planting Proposal Paper).
The report pack notes that Bristol’s One City Action Plan has the Environmental Objective of doubling the tree canopy in the city by 2046 and becoming carbon neutral by 2030
.
The report pack contains the following quote about how Bristol City Council currently funds tree planting:
Tree Bristol utilises private sponsorship, Corporate sponsorship and development funding (s106 and CIL), to fund tree planting.
Tree planting in the area is funded by Section 106 contributions, which are explained as follows:
When a developer applies for planning permission to develop land, they are often required to agree to provide some form of benefit to the community as part of the development. These benefits are known as planning obligations or Section 106 agreements and are legally binding.
The report pack contains a proposal to plant one Syringa vulgaris in Small Lane in Eastville at a cost of £1,075.75. This would be funded from Section 106 contributions from two developments:
- Land at Bonnington Walk in Lockleaze
- 884 Fishponds Road in Fishponds
