The Keighley Area Committee meeting on 12 December 2024 had a single item of substance: an update on the activities of the Youth Service in Keighley. The meeting was scheduled to be held at 6pm in Keighley Young People's Centre on Parkwood Street, Keighley.

Youth Service Update - Keighley

The committee was scheduled to be given an update on the work done by the Youth Service in Keighley over the previous 12 months.

The report, prepared by Abina Dorgan, details the work done by the Youth Service in Keighley. It was scheduled to be accompanied by three appendices describing the baseline provision of the Youth Service in each ward, ward-level updates on the service, and an overview of a service called 'The Keighley Vibe' that is aimed at 16-24 year olds.

The report describes the Bradford District Youth Offer, which is a partnership between Bradford Council and other organisations that aims to provide young people in the district with safe spaces, and opportunities to develop.

The Bradford Council Youth Service is part of the wider Bradford District Youth Offer that aims to ensure the provision of a range of activities and services that take place in safe spaces, where young people can develop a sense of belonging, socialise with their peers and develop relationships with adults they can trust. It recognises that with the right supportive relationships, strong ambitions and good opportunities all young people can realise their potential and be positive and active members of society.

The report describes the wide range of issues faced by young people in Keighley that the Youth Service has been dealing with, such as domestic abuse, educational anxiety, isolation and self-harm.

The report goes on to list all the various partnerships that the Youth Service is engaged in, and describes the range of activities that it has put on over the last year, including:

• Detached youth work
• Youth clubs
• Sports and arts programmes
• Mental health and wellbeing support
• Employment and training support
• Support for young people at risk of exploitation

The report was due to be accompanied by a recommendation that the Area Committee welcomes the work undertaken by the Youth Service, and requests a further report in 12 months time.

This was to be the third such report to the Keighley Area Committee, with the last one being discussed in October 2023.
