Summary
The Licensing Committee of Middlesbrough Council met on 09 December 2024 and determined two matters relating to the Private Hire Vehicle Operator's Licence.
Review of Private Hire Vehicle Driver Licence Ref: 21/24
The committee reviewed the licence of a driver who had been seen on CCTV to be driving dangerously whilst potentially under the influence of passengers. The driver claimed that he had been scared of the passengers in his vehicle, who had recognised a cyclist as someone who had recently burgled the driver's car. However, this account was contradicted by the driver's booking history, which showed that he did not have a fare at the time of the incident.
The committee noted that:
The committee believed that the Driver had been dishonest with Licensing Officers in his interview and once the information regarding bookings was known, the committee believed that the Driver quickly changed his story at the hearing.
The driver was found to be dishonest, and his licence was revoked.
