Summary
The Passenger Transport Liaison Group met to discuss passenger safety, updates on bus and train services, and accessibility projects. The agenda included updates from Transport for London (TfL) and Network Rail on various projects and performance reports on bus routes. The meeting also provided an opportunity for councillors and transport representatives to raise concerns and discuss potential improvements to public transport services in Wandsworth Borough.
Public Transport Passenger Safety
The agenda included a discussion on public transport passenger safety, with a specific focus on the Safe Spaces scheme at Clapham Junction Station. A representative from the Community Safety Team was scheduled to provide an update on the scheme. Safe Spaces are designated areas where vulnerable individuals can seek help and support.
Bus Service Updates and Monitoring
Several items on the agenda concerned bus services in the borough. These included:
- Extension of Bus Route 315: TfL was expected to provide an update on the extension of bus route 315 into the Springfield Hospital Development.
- Bus Quality of Service Indicators: The group was scheduled to receive and note the information provided in the Bus Quality of Service Indicator report. The report contains data on the performance of bus routes in Wandsworth, including waiting times and reliability.
- Monitoring of Bus Routes: TfL was due to provide updates on the performance of several bus routes: 14, 430, 436, 39, 93, and 493.
The Bus Quality of Service Indicators Report - Quarter Three included in the report pack, provided detailed statistics on bus performance in the borough. The report explains how the statistics are calculated:
Bus routes are split into two categories - high and low frequency. Statistics are given for regular daytime and night bus services. All routes are quoted to one decimal place. For this reason figures may not add up due to rounding.
For groups of services, totals are a weighted average of the individual route-level figures, the weighting being proportional to the frequencies of the routes (i.e. more frequent services are given a higher weighting).
The report included tables of data for both high frequency and low frequency routes, giving an overview of waiting times and reliability.
Train and Overground Updates
The meeting agenda included updates on train and overground services in Wandsworth, specifically:
- 'Access for All' and Second Entrance: Wandsworth Town Station: Network Rail was scheduled to provide an update on the ‘Access for All’ programme1 and the new second entrance for Wandsworth Town Station.
- Second Entrance: Queenstown Road Station: Network Rail was expected to provide an update on the construction of a new second entrance at Queenstown Road Station.
- Step Free Access: Wandsworth Train Stations: TfL was due to provide an update on the Step Free Access project for train stations in Wandsworth Borough.
