The Westbury Area Board met to elect a chair and vice-chair, and to appoint a representative to the Local Highways and Footpath Improvement Group (LHFIG). Councillor Robert Smith was elected as Chairman, Councillor Gordon King, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, was elected as Vice-Chairman, and Councillor Boaz Barry was appointed as the Lead Representative to the LHFIG.
Appointment of a Representative to the LHFIG
Councillor Boaz Barry was appointed as the Lead Representative to the Local Highways and Footpath Improvement Group (LHFIG). The LHFIG operates as an informal working group making recommendations to the Area Board for approval.
The terms of reference for the LHFIG state that it will normally be made up of:
- Members of the Area Board
- Town and Parish Council representatives
- Community / Stakeholder representatives
The LHFIG's terms of reference also state that:
The LHFIGs have no formal decision-making authority on operational matters or budget expenditure but act as an informal discussion forum making recommendations to the Area Board.
Election of Chairman and Vice-Chairman
Councillor Robert Smith was elected as Chairman of the Westbury Area Board for the forthcoming year. Councillor Gordon King, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, was elected as Vice-Chairman. The Election of Area Board Chairs Procedure document details the procedure for electing the Chairman and Vice-Chairman. The procedure states that:
The Democratic Services representative will call for nominations for the position of Chairman of the Area Board and preside over the election. A Member’s nomination must be seconded to be valid.
