The Licensing, Environment & Safety Sub-Committee A of Stockport Council met on Monday 19 May 2025. The primary item scheduled for discussion was an application for a premises licence for Cheadle Town Football Club.
Application for a Premises Licence at Cheadle Town Football Club
The sub-committee was scheduled to consider an application from Cheadle Town Football Ltd for a premises licence for Cheadle Town Football Club, located at Park Road, Cheadle, SK8 2AN. The application, made under the Licensing Act 2003, sought to allow the supply of alcohol on and off the premises between 12:00 and 23:00, Monday to Sunday.
The report detailed that Cheadle Town Football Club currently holds a Club Premises Certificate, which permits the sale of alcohol to members and guests, along with live and recorded music, during specific hours. The new application proposed extending these activities.
A key aspect of the discussion was expected to be a representation received from a local resident concerning the prevention of public nuisance. This representation raised concerns about potential noise nuisance and anti-social behaviour stemming from the premises, particularly in relation to the proposed licensable activities. The report outlined guidance from the Licensing Act 2003, including advice on managing noise, light pollution, and anti-social behaviour, and stressed that any conditions attached to a licence should be tailored to the specific premises and activities.
The sub-committee was presented with several options regarding the application: to grant it as submitted, to grant it with conditions, to exclude certain licensable activities, to amend the hours of licensable activities, to refuse to specify a designated premises supervisor, or to reject the application entirely. The report recommended that the sub-committee determine the application.
The meeting was also scheduled to include standard procedural items such as approving the minutes of the previous meeting held on 22 April 2025, declarations of interest, and public question time. Additionally, a section was allocated to consider whether the public should be excluded from discussions relating to the application, as appendices to the report contained information deemed 'not for publication' under the Licensing Act 2003.
