The most significant topic was the election of Councillor Paxton Hood-Williams as the new Lord Mayor. Councillor Lyndon Jones proposed his nomination, highlighting Paxton's long-standing commitment to the Fairwood Ward and his various roles, including chairing Child and Family Services. Jones praised Paxton's dedication and the support he receives from his wife, Pat. Councillor Elizabeth Wendy Fitzgerald was elected as the Deputy Lord Mayor. She declared her commitment to fulfilling the duties of the office and observing the Council's Code of Conduct.
A vote of thanks was given to the outgoing Lord Mayor, Councillor Graham Thomas. Black highlighted Graham's involvement in various cultural and community events, such as the Swansea Philharmonic and the Swansea Male Festival. Councillor Mike Day seconded the motion, commending Graham's quiet and unassuming manner and his support for various community groups.
Graham Thomas, in his farewell speech, thanked the Council members, his colleagues, and his family for their support. He highlighted memorable events from his tenure, including remembrance events, Christmas activities, and visits from the Romanian ambassador. He also mentioned the successful fundraising efforts for his chosen charities, Friends of the Undisabled and Crisis Skylight, which raised £18,000.
