The Tower Hamlets Council Appointments Sub-Committee convened to discuss the longlisting of candidates for the Director of IT position. The meeting, held in the Chief Executive's Office at Tower Hamlets Town Hall, also included an election of a chair and a review of declarations of interest. The committee was expected to exclude the press and public due to the confidential nature of the agenda items.

Director of IT Longlisting

The central focus of the meeting was to consider a report by Penna, a recruitment consultancy, regarding candidates for the Director of IT position. The report pack included CVs and supporting statements from all candidates.

The Appointments Sub-Committee was asked to agree on a longlist of candidates to invite for first-stage technical interviews. The report pack recommended that the committee:

The report pack stated that the Director of IT position had been advertised on the council's website, the Penna Exec Search website, the Municipal Journal, Guardian Jobs, and social media. It also noted that Penna had undertaken a targeted executive search.

The report pack also noted that not recruiting to the post would mean continuing with the interim arrangement, which will not create the necessary stability that is required by filling a Director role on a permanent basis .

Other Business

Prior to the discussion of candidates, the meeting was scheduled to begin with the election of a chair. Councillors were also expected to declare any interests, with reference to guidance from the Interim Monitoring Officer, Linda Walker, regarding disclosable pecuniary interests (DPIs) and non-DPI interests¹.
