The Bassetlaw Council Planning Committee met on Wednesday, 10 September 2025, and approved plans for a celebration beacon in Sutton Cum Lound, and a variation of conditions relating to affordable housing in Beckingham. Councillors also granted a certificate of lawful development for a children's home in Clarborough.
Planning Application: Land South of and Adjoining Station Road, Beckingham
The committee voted to grant planning permission for a variation of condition 1 to planning application 24/00811/VOC for land south of and adjoining Station Road, Beckingham. The change allows for the removal of the affordable housing element (20 units) from the illustrative layout plan.
The Senior Planning Officer told the committee that the applicant had shown that the residential scheme is currently unviable when delivering the section 1061 contributions. It is proposed that the affordable housing element will be delivered by Forge Homes and purchased by Together Housing Group with grant funding from Homes England.
Justin Martin, the applicant, spoke in support of the application.
Planning Application: Play Area Adjacent to Portland Place, Sutton Cum Lound, Nottinghamshire
The committee voted to grant planning permission for the erection of a celebration beacon to be used for various public events at the play area adjacent to Portland Place, Sutton Cum Lound.
The Planning Officer presented the application, and told members that 17 objections and 18 letters of support had been received.
Martin Rees of the parish council spoke in support of the application. Marilyn Boeuf, an objector, and Councillor D Pulk, a ward member, spoke in objection.
Planning Application: 55 St Johns Drive, Clarborough, Nottinghamshire DN22 9NN
The committee voted to grant a certificate of lawful development for a change of use of a dwelling (C3a2) to a children's home (C2[^4]) for up to two children, a manager and up to two carers at 55 St Johns Drive, Clarborough.
The Planning Officer presented the application, and told members that details of the proposed use had been provided for their consideration.
Kelly Sealy, an objector, and Councillor F McFarland, a ward member, spoke in objection to the application. Nicola Carey, the applicant, spoke in support of the application.
Councillor G A N Oxby declared a non-pecuniary interest in this item, as he was an acquaintance of one of the objectors and a friend of the wider family, and left the meeting for the duration of the item. Councillor F McFarland also declared a non-pecuniary interest in this item, as he had spoken against the application as the ward member, and sat in the public gallery for the duration of the item.
