The Licensing Sub Committee of Cheshire East Council met to consider an application for a new premises licence for Ashley Hall. The report pack included the procedure for hearings, and the application and supporting documents. The sub-committee was asked to consider what steps, if any, it considered appropriate to promote the licensing objectives1.
New Premises Licence Application - Ashley Hall
The sub-committee was scheduled to consider an application for a new premises licence for Ashley Hall, Ashley, Cheshire, WA14 3QA.
The applicant was Great British Festivals Ltd.
The application was for a licence to allow:
- Films
- Live Music
- Recorded Music
- Performances of Dance
- Anything similar to live music, recorded music and dance
- Supply of Alcohol
The hours requested for the licence were:
- Supply of alcohol (for consumption on & off the premises): Thursday - Sunday – 10:00 to 23:00
- Provisions of Recorded Music/Live Music (outdoors): Thursday – Sunday – 10:00 to 23:00
- Late Night Refreshments (for consumption on & off the premises): Thursday – Sunday – 23:00 – 00:00
The application stated that Edward Robert Prophet, would be the designated premises supervisor2.
The application noted that the premises, Ashley Hall Showground, is a purpose built, enclosed showground area on the outskirts of Ashley village near Altrincham
and that the maximum capacity for the event would be 14,999.
The report pack included a copy of a previous premises licence, PREM1574, granted on 24 May 2024, which was time limited to 3-6 July 2025.
Representation from a member of the public
The council received one representation against the application, from a member of the public.
The resident stated that they were writing to formally object to the application submitted by Great British Festivals Ltd for a new premises licence at Ashley Hall Showground under the Licensing Act 2003.
The resident raised concerns including:
- Unbearable Noise Levels
- Severe Traffic and Parking Disruption
- Increased Risk and Overuse of an Already Busy Area
The resident stated:
The cumulative impact of noise, congestion, obstruction, and safety concerns is entirely incompatible with the Licensing Objectives—particularly those concerning the prevention of public nuisance, public safety, and the prevention of crime and disorder.
