Outer South Community Committee - Monday, 29th September, 2025 4.00 pm
September 29, 2025 View on council websiteSummary
The Outer South Community Committee met to discuss the King's Awards for Voluntary Service and Enterprise, and to review the committee's finances. The committee noted the information provided on the King's Awards, and were informed of delays to the finance report due to the implementation of a new finance system at Leeds City Council.
King's Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) and the King's Award for Enterprise (KAE) Schemes
The committee received an update on the King's Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) and the King's Award for Enterprise (KAE) schemes. The King's Award for Voluntary Service is an award given to volunteer groups in the UK to recognise outstanding work in their communities. The King's Award for Enterprise is an award for outstanding achievement by UK businesses in the categories of innovation, international trade, sustainable development and promoting opportunity through social mobility.
The committee was asked to assist in identifying groups or organisations that might qualify for the schemes, and to explore ways in which the Lieutenancy could help the committee in its work with the local community. Councillor Oliver Newton, Chair of Outer South Community Committee, invited elected members to provide suggestions for their locality and to ask questions.
Outer South Community Committee Finance Report
The committee received a finance cover report from Liz Jarmin, Head of Locality Partnerships, to provide an update on the finance report. Due to Leeds City Council's transition to a new finance system, Microsoft Dynamics, the budget position statement was delayed. A full finance report, including carry forward figures from the previous financial year (2024/25) will be submitted as a late item once the figures are confirmed. The finance report will provide the Outer South Community Committee with the total Wellbeing and Youth Activity Fund allocation, alongside grant funding requests.
