Here's a summary of the items scheduled for discussion at the Questions at Any Time to Cabinet Portfolio Holders meeting of Powys Council. The meeting was scheduled to address a question from County Councillor Gareth Ratcliffe regarding digital support for residents in Powys. The question was directed to County Councillor Raiff Devlin, Cabinet Member for Customers, Digital and Community Services.
Digital Support for Residents
County Councillor Gareth Ratcliffe was scheduled to ask County Councillor Raiff Devlin about the support Powys County Council is providing to residents who want to develop digital skills and transition to online services.
County Councillor Gareth Ratcliffe's question in the Agenda Frontsheet noted that more services are moving online, including health communications and billing from utility companies, and that many residents are being encouraged to transition to digital systems. He noted that some residents would like to go digital but lack the confidence, training, or support needed to make the switch.
He was scheduled to ask:
- What support is Powys County Council providing to help residents who want to develop digital skills and transition to online services?
- How is the Council ensuring that digital skills training and support are accessible beyond the main hubs, so that people across the county are not left behind by the rapid pace of change?
- Does the Portfolio Holder agree that by helping willing residents to go digital, PCC, Health, and other services could save money while also improving residents' confidence and independence?
County Councillor Gareth Ratcliffe observed that even experienced computer users can feel discouraged when faced with new or unfamiliar systems, and that the rapid pace of change can cause stress and anxiety.
