Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Southwark and are not the council. About us
The Licensing Sub-Committee was scheduled to consider three applications for premises licences under the Licensing Act 2003. These applications related to Peckham Palais, Kent Restaurant and Lounge, and La Hueca Limited.
Peckham Palais, 1a Rye Lane, London SE15 5EW
The committee was scheduled to consider an application by Background Bars Limited for a premises licence for Peckham Palais. This application was subject to representations from four responsible authorities: trading standards, the environmental protection team, the Metropolitan Police Service, and the licensing unit. There were also twenty-six representations from other persons supporting the application. The report detailed the proposed licensable activities and operating hours, which included plays, films, live and recorded music, performances of dance, late-night refreshment, and the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises. The application was noted to be within the Peckham cumulative impact area (CIA) and Peckham Major Town Centre. The report also outlined the premises' existing licence and its history.
Kent Restaurant and Lounge, First Floor, 516 Old Kent Road, London SE1 5BA
An application by Kent Restaurant and Lounge Limited for a premises licence was scheduled for consideration. This application had two outstanding representations from responsible authorities: the Metropolitan Police Service and the council's environmental protection team, as well as licensing as a responsible authority. Fifteen representations from other persons were also noted, raising concerns about previous poor management practices and the potential for repetition if a late licence was granted. The report detailed the proposed hours for the sale of alcohol, late-night refreshment, regulated entertainment, and opening hours, which were described as extensive. The premises' history was also outlined, including previous licence revocations and complaints related to crime, disorder, and noise nuisance.
La Hueca Limited, 220 Old Kent Road, London SE1 5UB
The committee was scheduled to review an application by Hugo Santiago Garzon Plua for a premises licence for La Hueca Limited. This application had one outstanding representation from an other person,
identified as the landlord, who stated they did not give permission for a sub-tenant to hold an alcohol licence and raised concerns about public nuisance and disorder. The Metropolitan Police Service had initially made a representation but withdrew it after agreeing on additional conditions. The report detailed the proposed hours for the sale of alcohol, recorded music, and opening hours, describing the premises as a restaurant and bar.
The premises' previous licence history was also noted, with a previous licence for an express supermarket having been surrendered.
