Isle of Wight Domestic Abuse Strategy

Domestic abuse has a significant and long-term impact on victim-survivors and their families. The trauma inflicted by domestic abuse goes beyond the physical damage often associated with this crime, and can have detrimental mental, emotional, social and financial impacts. The paper will focus on the Isle of Wight Domestic Abuse Strategy and Safe Accommodation Strategy, which set out how Isle of Wight Council responsibilities under the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 will be delivered.

Better Care Fund (BCF) 2025/26

The Better Care Fund (BCF) programme supports the Isle of Wight Council (IWC) and Integrated Care Board (ICB) to successfully deliver integrated working that best supports Island residents. The requirements of the BCF are set by NHS England (NHSE), including details on financial and contractual arrangements. The Cabinet is asked to approve the work BCF planning undertaken to date and submission and to delegate to the Director for Adult Social Care and Housing Needs for the Isle of Wight (IWC) and the ICB (Isle of Wight place) Partnerships Director authority to further develop the BCF 2025-26 templates in line with the national guidance and deadlines.

Discretionary Rate Relief Policy

New legislation is being brought in with effect from 1 April 2025 removing charitable rate relief from private schools in England who will no longer be eligible for this relief. As this change will impact private schools, they may seek support through other reliefs provided through business rates as the impacts may be costly and therefore a change to the Discretionary Rate Relief policy is being made to exclude private schools for obtaining relief by this means.
